How to manage anxiety
It’s important to seek professional help if you or someone you know is experiencing anxiety.
In the meantime, you can use a variety of techniques for support.
If you are experiencing anxiety yourself, talk to someone you trust about your feelings. If you spot the symptoms of anxiety in others, spend some time with them and ask them how they are doing.
Try to manage your worries. You can do this by writing them down or allocating a set amount of time every day to think about them.
Take care of your physical health by sleeping well, eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise. Avoid alcohol and illicit drugs, as they may trigger anxiety.
Try breathing exercises to help you feel more in control.
If you are worried about someone’s physical health, follow the DRSABCD St John Action Plan for guidance on how to help them.
If the situation is life-threatening, call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.
