Topic 2
Why is first aid important?

First aid for truck drivers is important because they operate in diverse terrains and remote areas where access to immediate medical help might be limited. Being equipped with first aid skills ensures they can respond swiftly when accidents happen or if someone needs help while they’re out there on the road.
Knowledge of first aid for truck drivers is important because:
- Over 60% of drivers experience fatigue, and one in ten admit to nodding off while driving.
- Nearly a third of drivers have three or more diagnosed medical conditions, significantly higher than the national average. First aid training equips drivers to handle medical emergencies related to these conditions, ensuring they can address sudden health crises promptly.
- Crashes contribute significantly to the burden of disability, accounting for 17% of illness and injury-related disabilities.
