Topic 1
Identifying a sprain or strain
A sprain is a severe tug or twist of the ligaments, which leads to pain and swelling in joints. These sorts of injuries typically occur in the ankle or wrist.
A strain occurs when you severely stretch muscles or tendons.
What are the symptoms?
- Pain or tenderness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Loss of ability to use the limb
- Muscle spasms
If the injured area looks deformed, or you have difficulty putting weight on it or moving it, this could be a sign of a fracture.
If in doubt, you should seek medical assistance.
