What are cuts and scrapes?
Cuts and scrapes are a common occurrence on boating trips. A cut is a wound where the skin is broken and there is bleeding. This can happen if you come into contact with sharp objects, like fishhooks. A scrape is a shallow wound that does not extend as deeply as a cut and may only involve minimal bleeding. Scrapes can happen when you have a minor fall, for example.
On a boat, you might encounter hazards that can cause cuts or scrapes. These include fishing equipment or rough surfaces that you may fall against, causing abrasions.
Possible causes for cuts and scrapes include:
- Mishandling of sharp objects like fishhooks or boating equipment
- Falling onto a rough surface
- Coming into contact with broken glass
