Signs and symptoms of depression

The signs of depression vary from person to person. You may feel low, sad or empty most of the time. This may cause you to feel tearful or angry. You may also isolate yourself from co-workers, family and friends. In severe cases, you may consider hurting yourself or even experience suicidal thoughts.

Depression may also trigger physical symptoms, including the inability to get to sleep or to enjoy good-quality sleep.

Other physical symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Reduced energy
  • Loss or change of appetite
  • Weight loss or gain
