What is depression?

Everyone feels low or has lower energy now and again. However, if you seem to be stuck in a low mood or lose interest in activities you usually enjoy, you may be experiencing depression. You may also have physical symptoms such as feeling tired all the time.

People with mild or moderate depression may be able to continue with their usual daily routine. If you’re living with more severe depression, you may be unable to carry out your normal tasks. You may even think about harming yourself or have suicidal thoughts.

Possible causes for depression include:

  • Coping with grief or loss
  • A stressful situation at work
  • Feeling isolated
