Signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction

There are many situations at school when anaphylaxis can happen. Sharing lunch, trying new foods or out on the playground where there are lots of insects flying around.

There are few ways to tell if a child is having an allergic reaction.

These include:

  • Difficulty and/or noisy breathing
  • Wheezing or persistent coughing
  • Swelling of the face, tongue or throat
  • Difficulty talking and/or sound hoarse when speaking
  • Persistent dizziness or becoming unconscious
  • Abdominal pain and vomiting
  • Breaking out in hives, welts or redness on the body
  • Becoming pale and feeling weak
