Signs and symptoms of severe bleeding
While bleeding is common for cuts and abrasions, severe bleeding is cause for concern. Here are a few common symptoms of severe bleeding:
- A visible loss of blood, such as oozing, flowing or spurting
- Pain
- Tenderness
- Pale complexion
- Dizziness or fainting
- Thirst
- Increased loss of consciousness
Severe bleeding varies from other forms of bleeding in a number of ways. Not only is there more blood loss, but there may also be related symptoms such as dizziness, paleness or a quick or progressive decrease in consciousness. Even small injuries could lead to severe bleeding in need of immediate medical attention.
Other physical symptoms of severe bleeding include:
- Fast heart rate
- Clammy skin
- Low blood pressure
- Intensity of blood loss, such as fast blood accumulation
