What are self-care techniques?

These are examples of some self-care techniques that you can practise easily, even if you are in a remote area:

Healthy lifestyle changes:

Making healthy lifestyle changes will impact positively on all areas of your health and wellbeing. You might consider:

  • Finding an exercise, or form of movement, you enjoy and can do regularly
  • Getting into a good sleep routine.
  • Ensuring you eat a nutritious diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • You can also reduce alcohol, quit smoking and avoid illicit drugs to enjoy more health benefits.

Relaxation:

  • Consider what helps you relax e.g. mindfulness, meditation, yoga, deep breathing, muscle relaxation, going for a walk or something else. Check out some of the apps to help with this. Make relaxation a part of your routine
  • Do something you enjoy on a regular basis such as reading or listening to music
  • Spend time in nature

Connect with others:

  • Spend time with people you feel connected to
  • Consider joining a club or team to expand your social connections
  • Help others when you can
