What are cuts and scrapes?
Cuts and scrapes are a common occurrence while fishing. A cut is a wound where the skin is broken and there is bleeding. This can happen if you come into contact with sharp objects, like fishhooks or sharp rocks. A scrape is a shallow wound that does not extend as deeply as a cut and may only involve minimal bleeding. Scrapes can happen when you have a minor fall, for example.
While fishing, especially while fishing from rock ledges, you might encounter hazards that can cause cuts or scrapes. These include slippery and unstable surfaces that you may fall against, causing abrasions.
Possible causes for cuts and scrapes include:
- Mishandling of sharp objects like fishhooks or fishing equipment
- Falling onto a slippery surface
- Coming into contact with broken glass
