Topic 2
Why is first aid important?

Many of us spend a lot of time in the office, so it’s important to create a safe workplace environment. While professional hazards may be limited, accidents do happen. Learning how to respond to the most common office incidents enables you to lend a hand in case of an emergency.
Physical injury from tripping over a loose computer cable or a slip down a wet stairwell to possible burnout during busy sales periods – there are several potential health risks to watch out for in the workplace. Eliminating stress can be difficult, but you can take steps to minimise it. When in doubt, rely on your common sense and St John WA First Aid Training to do your part.
First Aid is essential because:
- 4.2 per cent of employed Australians have experienced a work-related injury or illness.
- Falls are Australia’s top cause of injury and death.
- Australia experienced 169 worker fatalities in total in 2021.
