Topic 1
What is bleeding?
Bleeding occurs when someone loses blood from their circulatory system. Bleeding can happen for many reasons, and it ranges in severity from minor to major events. Possible causes of bleeding include cuts, abrasions, lacerations, punctures, bone fractures, and amputations. Injuries to the body can also cause internal bleeding, ranging in severity from superficial bruising to life-threatening organ failure.
First aid is needed for severe external or internal bleeding on the job site. It helps to limit the loss of blood until emergency services arrive, and it plays a vital role in keeping the person alive.
Possible causes for bleeding include:
- Cuts and abrasions due to an accident with work tools
- Lacerations or broken bones after falling from a height
- Amputation of a finger or limb due to equipment failure.
