Topic 2
Why is it important?

Skilled tradies are an important part of the Australian workforce. Whether it’s building something new or repairing something old, they help to keep the country strong. Working as a tradie can be dangerous, with accidents and injuries happening all too often.
For example, bleeding injuries are common on construction sites and at automotive repair shops. Bleeding can occur because of falls, impact events, or accidents with materials and tools.
First aid is essential because:
- Almost half a million Australians had a work-related injury or illness in 2021-22.
- Technicians and trades workers had the fourth highest rate of fatalities by occupation in 2022.
- First aid in the workplace is a compliance requirement set by Safe Work Australia.
