Of all office injuries, head injuries are often the most serious. Here’s how to administer first aid to a colleague.

If the injured person is unconscious, call Triple Zero (000) for immediate medical assistance.

If the injured person is conscious, do the following:

1. Start with the DRSABCD St John Action Plan.
2. Rest and reassure. Keep the injured person calm and lay them on their back. Tell them that help is on the way.
3. Hold their head in place.
4. Support their neck using towels, blankets or clothing.
5. Control any bleeding by allowing it to drain. Place a clean cloth between their head and the ground without applying pressure.
6. Stay by their side, monitor their symptoms and keep them calm.
7. Head injuries can be very serious and time-sensitive. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately for proper medical assistance.
