How to administer first aid for shock
If you suspect someone is in shock, here’s what you can do:
- Follow DRSABCD St John Action Plan.
- Call for help. Call Triple Zero (000) for emergency assistance.
- Lay the person down. Gently lay them on their back and make them comfortable.
- Keep them warm. Cover them with a blanket to maintain body heat.
- Monitor breathing. Stay with the person and keep an eye on their breathing and pulse until help arrives.
- Do not offer food or drink. Avoid giving them anything to eat or drink, as it could cause complications if they need surgery.
In a life-threatening situation, follow the DRSABCD St John Action Plan and call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance immediately. These steps can make a significant difference while waiting for medical assistance.
